Software Development and web-based side projects

Cheltenham Open Data

  • A GitHub project to collect and disseminate public open data from a variety of sources, created during the covid pandemic and lockdown 2020. The project pulls together terrorism ratings, food-bank data, flood warnings and covid data (now archived). The page now includes helpful phone numbers, consolidated local news and more being added as it becomes available. The main requirement was to just republish existing data as RSS feeds (xml) as it continues to be an undervalued publishing format.

Boinc

  • Hosting a web page for a friend; BOINC is a platform that allows computers all round the world to contribute their spare computing capacity to run distributed applications. Several of those involved with TheChels.org contribute their computers in such a way. Distributed applications are largely run by Universities to research fields such as Biology & Medicine, Earth Sciences, Mathematics or Physics & Astronomy.

SecOpsNews

  • RSS items as GitHub Issues for the discerning engineering leader or security professional. A repository to track and publish third party (RSS) feeds from various security sites as GitHub issues. Note this is quite noisy but seems well liked with over 50 stars on GitHub.

Feeds

  • An RSS feed aggregator that combines a bunch of RSS feeds into discrete pages per topic and all into one place and one simple view aimed at the discerning insurance technology professional.

Tools

  • A digital playground or smorgasbord of ad-hoc and occasional tooling, including converting file types, charting, and string manipulations such as Monte Carlo simulations, local weather report, url slug generation and rolling average calculator.

NetNewsWire Themes

  • A small collection of themes for my favourite RSS reader app, NetNewsWire. Users can download zips or install directly from Apple devices that have NNW installed.

Search Router

  • A default search engine browser homepage that uses !bangs and shortcodes to route a query to a search engine, or a websites search result page e.g !amz pepsi max will show results on amazon uk for my go to drink. The app is a simple vanilla HTML, CSS, and JavaScript using AI for the design/layout.

Nuchronic.uk

  • The webring for the chronically ill on the indie web. A dark-mode hacker news style site that aggregates content from a variety of sources, including blogs, podcasts, and YouTube channels, all focused on the blogs and lives of people with chronic illness. The site is built using HTML, CSS, Jekyll and hosted on GitHub Pages, naturally. Utilising Python and GitHub Actions for the compute.

Homebridge YaleSyncAlarm-2

  • Homebridge YaleSyncAlarm-2 is an updated project working on top of an existing version that appears to be abandoned having not been made ready for HB 2.0 or had any maintenance in the last 9 years. The NPM package can be installed for Homebridge users and helps manage your sync alarm, working alongside a dummy switch - the alarm can be armed or disarmed through HomeKit automations (e.g., set alarm when last person leaves the home)
