YouTube continues to ruin its app/player to make it even more like TikTok

I can barely use the YouTube app, there is a community attached to a channel that spams a post with AI slop Jesus everyday. I have no issues with religion, but it’s relentless spam I don’t need and have no way of blocking or hiding this content - unlike most other social media apps.

When setting the view to video only this only persists for that view, it doesn’t persist.

Despite setting the time allowed to watch shorts to 0. I am still presented with them endlessly.

Thankfully, I use an RSS reader and my custom theme that converts YouTube links to x.app links that I can watch in a custom player with PIP or full screen available.

YouTube is adding even more TikTok-like features to Shorts, including a new “clear screen” mode that removes the icons and text from the video you’re watching. In a blog post on Thursday, YouTube says it’s also replacing the “thumbs-up” button with a “heart” icon, and is introducing a new option that lets you watch Shorts at 2x speed.
